Old photographs and the Tudors

I had a lot of fun scanning some old photos my kids mentioned wanting up on FB when I could not sleep last night. So I will show you what I scanned as I whiled away the hours until I finally fell asleep at 5 am this morning. I am not too swift today, so hope writing a blog entry proves to be a good idea. Here is the one Ronda wanted me to scan of her in her beloved white go go boots and a pink mini dress on I think it was her 4th birthday in Phoenix.

I doctored one on my scanner but for some reason that one would not take. This is the original, not quite so good. She was tickled and made it her profile picture.
Then I went down to Doc's and watched an episode of the Tudors before I went to the Farmer's Market on my regular Saturday jaunt. I had just read quite a detailed history of Henry VIII, so I am enjoying this showtime English made series based on the outrageous behavior of the King known for beheading a wife whose daughter became one of England's greatest queens, Elizabeth. Thank god they don't behead us cast off wives anymore. Things have gotten a little better, but I find all this scheming and plotting to try to get a divorce or an annulment as they used to do in the old days with Catholic control of the world intriguing but disturbing. King Henry has plotted and schemed about all he can. Now he is going to do away with the Catholic church's domination in England. That will take some doing, but this strong willed but not always wise King is up to it.
I love costume drama based on history so I love this series despite the grim realities of life and love in those days.
After I came home with my usual purchase of turnips and tomatoes, plus some baking potatoes and tamales, I came upstairs to nap a while. Aside from not enough sleep, it has been a relatively nice Saturday.
PS. Here is another cute photo of Ronda and her cousins, Mala and Stuart, in outfits my sister Ann made them. They always had to wear them together.

Sunflowers to Doc and a new purse to me on Farmer's Market day!

Be sure to click on this photo so you can see these sunflowers in all their glory. I picked them out for Doc to brighten up his apartment even though he paid for them. Beside the sunflowers note the glass of yes, it is fall apple cider! The best I have ever tasted, even though I had to pay $7 for a half gallon. It was worth every dollar. I can only drink a couple of glasses a day as it is sweet. They also had a sale on hummus, 3 for $15 plus a box of their pita chips. I decided that was good enough to last me a week. I bought artichoke, roasted red pepper, and tabouli. I love tabouli. Ever try it? It is made of chopped parsley with a lemon olive oil dressing and a little sprinkling of I think it is parmesean cheese throughout. I feel I am part cow when I am eating it.
And I am helping Missie out this week who had a blogger object to her showing photos of her purchases. Is this a real woman? I also bought this denim purse at the Farmer's Market today, of course to help out the ladies who drag all their stuff there every week, but because I have been looking for a cute denim purse forever and today I found it. It cost $18. So I won't be able to go to the thrift store any this month, but I think it is adorable. And what is more it made me happy! I hope all of you will take more photos of your latest cute purchase. What is the use of buying if you don't enjoy the heck out of it? And I like it when some woman says "I think that is cute, too!" To me that is one of the joys of blogging. Sharing the things that bring spice to life.

Doc is going to enjoy his bouquet of sunflowers all week, too. He sent me for yellow mums, but the pot was too heavy and I could not carry it. Doc is an artist. He is a messy dude (his apartment) but he loves color. Hooray for him.

Farmer's Market on Saturday always interesting

Not having heard from Doc since his night of calling without me answering, I conclude that he is accepting things pretty well. I got up early to try to get across the street before there was a long line. I purchased a few egg plants first time as I have not cooked them before. I might eventually get so interested in my cooking I will photograph the vegetables and fruit as Amrita who writes Yesu Gardens does. I bought some oregano flakes yesterday to sprinkle on some of them, mainly my green bean, potato and tomato salad made with olive oil and wine vineger dressing. Today I bought large cherry tomatoes and cucumbers like we used to grow and eat from our garden. They are smaller than the ones you buy in the stores and are also used for pickling. Except I will not be pickling! I also bought fresh corn on the cob and a fresh tomato salsa to put on cooked dishes, truly good.
I had a mishap with my container of raw honey I bought over there when I was moving and accidentally threw it in the garbage. So I had to buy another. I want to talk to the bee keepers next time I get a chance to see if the hive collapse syndrome that has been hitting bee keepers across America has hit his or her hives. Yes, the bees are in trouble again. The hope is that they can start breeding a stronger tougher bee like the Africanized ones but without their dangerous aggressiveness. What the bees do now is just go out and fail to return. Pesticides have played a part in weakening the bee but they think another virus is to blame, one that may have originated in Australia. We will be in an awful fix without bees to pollinate all the crops, so they are working over time to try to solve this latest big problem among the bees.
An old oriental lady and her lady friend were the stars of the show this morning. They barged in to the head of the line and could not be persuaded to leave the cash register. They did not understand 'go to the end of the line.' So they finally had to give up and put them through, and even then they were having to use sign language to try to tell them what they owed. But I was glad to see they had made it out to the market and valued fresh vegetables so much.
Now I am going to settle down and find new things to do with my day. I hope you are having a farmer's market kind of day, too!

Oh, good news. My sister Linda and her daughter went to hear the doctor's report on her MRI and she did not think it bad enough for surgery. It seems they get this numb hands symptom quite often but since it has gotten no worse in all the time she has been waiting, Linda is some heartened to think they are recommending physical therapy which she starts soon. I am afraid surgery would not bring about a miraculous cure, so I was glad to hear they did not consider it bad enough for that. Linda has always had good strong bones like I do, and if she was able to get some of her weight off, she might see an improvement bigger than she had hoped for. I am looking for Dr. Andrew Weil books to send her who believes in homeopathic cures not surgery, which include what is being offered to Linda. She just posted a very interesting report on the International poets festival she attended in San Francisco in her blog Vooman's Voice on my blog list. She said that she dressed in her most colorful garb. Linda likes to dress like an artist. And a poet, whatever she finds to express herself. I hope she will soon be able to figure out how to post the photos she took.
Be sure to check out my sister Ann's blog KanyonlandKing as she posted the mysterious photo she took of my sister LaRae's painting of Grandma's 'spirit house' and the light above it. See what you think. As I point out to her, some might have other explanations for such anomolies, but they were looking for a sign to the festival, almost unconsciously, and the spirits come in on natural waves with just that slightest element of surprise that convnces you they are there and giving you a sign.

Son Dan takes Doc to get HD-TV, Farmers Market, and video "Ken has had 36 Moms trying to help him" (play reading, Act I, Scene 4)

Doc is elated about his new high definition TV, displayed in photo. My son Dan took us to Walmart, and the new TV took up so much room in his car, he had to take Doc and it back to his apartment and return to get me and groceries. Doc paid Dan, so he was happy, as his hours have been drastically cut on his job due to the economy meltdown.
I went to the Farmer's Market this morning which was very busy due to many in the complex getting some coupons this week for produce. Besides some great looking vegetables and fruit, I got some oatmeal, wheatberry bread, and eggplant tamales. I love going to the Farmers Market on Saturday. Oh yes, and I bought this tye dye summer dress in photo which goes with my tye dye hat I bought last year. Tyde dye girl said this dress was her grand experiment. I just love it!

Ken loses his jobs almost as fast as he gets them, so even 36 moms do not keep him from living on the edge of starvation and the street. Jana tries to come up with solutions but Ken is too afraid of mean men to work for hardly anybody.
