Utah family members return from trek to LA to see Raymond's play

Six family members went from the St. George area and two nieces, Cheryl and Colette, have reported already that the trip was worth their time and really enjoyed it. In fact both nieces are thinking of a performance date for the play in St. George at some future date, as since it is focused on Raymond's relationship with his dad, and his disasppearance, people who know about the search and rescue efforts that went on for some months would be interested. One said she knew what she was going to give her dad for Father's day when it will be playing in Boulder, a ticket to the performance of Bohemian Cowboy!
The ranch featured in the painting above was in the King family for years since it was homesteaded by my grandfather. Raymond's dad and I lived here a couple of years when Raymond was just a baby. My aunt Neta who also spent summers there when she was a girl painted the picture as she remembered it was when the log house was first built. I also lived on this ranch from the age of 5 until I was 8 We left a couple of winters in the coldest months, but I remember walking over the hill from the school bus always a little nervous for fear coyotes might harm me. The coyotes always howled at night but I am glad to report that they never attacked humans. I also kept my eye out for any rattlesnakes that might slither by as they would appear now and then. But mostly we saw big yellow blow snakes that would even crawl up the logs for birds nests built under the roof.
Aunt Neta paints the picture from the vantage point of a high hill in the center of the ranch which I thought of as belonging to us kids. We used to build slate rock houses there, and we wrote on the slate rock with rock pens. I always felt I was very close to the wilds when we lived in Salt Gulch.

This is a very nice picture and fits so well with you touching on your Salt Gulch life. I didn't even know your aunt Neta painted and if this is a sample she was very good. I have a soft spot it my heart for Salt Gulch and some very happy memories of spending my honeymoon year there. Just wouldn't want to live there again. The big snow of 48 and 49 would make anyone think they had to go some place else. Except of course for the very hardy souls like Mac and Lenore who wanted to be there until there dieing day.

The painting caused me to stop and look for several minutes before I could even read this entry. It is breath taking. Her talent is young and still fresh even if it is from so long ago. I'm excited for Raymond of the possibility of taking this show 'on the road'. I hope that is possible in his life. He's certainly payed his dues in this art realm. Hopefully it can get on DVD and they can market them for profit. A big congratulations to him for all his hard work. I know you are so proud.

Those coyotes get everywhere. One year we had one in Central Park, in the middle of New York City. The animal rescue people finally caught him and let him out in New Jersay.

Thank you for your interesting comments on my journal.

I was born in this log cabin, and I assure you, was not nearly as pretty as this! Gerry lived there much longer...I was too little to remember. But I always loved this painting anyway. Makes for a birth place of beauty!

So glad his family got to see him perform. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing the play with you. I almost went earlier, but chose to wait to see it with you.
Give Raymond my best...and be sure to reserve my seat, ok?
